It’s quite simple, really.
Owners, Tim and Kerry Smith loved going to watch live music, performance art, and movies, but had to travel, at the very least, 100 miles to do so. Once, they even traveled 600 miles to attend a film showing Austin, TX.; all while running a screen-printing business, Unique Ink. They realized that their time was scarce, and decided to bring the music to their doorstep, at the parking lot of their business.
Monthly shows took place for free in hopes of gaining others interest in the community for live, independent, nationally touring acts. After three years passed Tim and Kerry realized realized that most in attendance were from Farmington, MO.; and decided to bring the music closer to them. For one year, Tim and Kerry hosted live music at a local coffee house while searching for their own establishment to put their full vision to the test.
During the beginning of 2011, a vacant space in The Business Arts Center of The Factory was presented to them to fulfill an overdue dream of running a live entertainment and revival film venue. Soon after swift work began to open The Vault by March, 22nd, 2011; and swift it was! Regardless, on March 22nd, 2011 The Vault door opened and “a new kind of kick” was introduced to Farmington, MO., with Poke LaFarge and The South City Three, Miss Tess and The Bon Ton Parade, and Sammich The Tramp (In Real Life)! Ever since, The Vault has been hosting several national, regional, and local performance artists showcasing all genres of music and performance art.
The Vault has also recently integrated the love of film to the weekly events showing independent, classic, foreign, campy, and all together fabulous movies from various eras in time. Some films may strike you as odd, others may be thought provoking, and some may make you wonder, “Why are they showing this?”. You should just sit back, relax, have a cold brew, let the movie play and after you soak it up, you will know what there is to appreciate.
But that’s not all there is appreciate at The Vault! Accompanying you during these events, is a robust menu featuring locally produced gourmet quarter pound pork hotdogs (containing no antibiotics, no hormones, and no steroids) served on a freshly baked bun (compliments of our friends at Avenue Events), and vegetarian panini options with a choice of St. Louis Billy Goat Chips or house made slaw, along with several delicious salad combinations. Check out our schedule of events, then our menu, and come hangout with the crew at The Vault!
The existence of The Vault came to be through a long sequence of events
